Messe Frankfurt’s new “Energy4Mobility” expert talk series focused on future alternative fuels. From hydrogen and electricity to biofuels and synthetic fuels, a broad spectrum of alternative drive systems was covered. The third edition of the live talk series “Engery4Mobility” on June 24, 2021, focused the discussion on hydrogen with the title “Is hydrogen the game changer for the mobility of the future?”. Well-known representatives from science, research institutions and industry, such as MAN Energy Solutions, Robert Bosch Elektronik GmbH or NOW GmbH, discussed the potential of hydrogen for mobility with KEYOU CEO Tom Korn.
In answering the central question of the talk round, the speakers agreed that hydrogen will play an important role in the mix of alternative drive technologies. Especially regarding the achievement of European climate targets and emission-free mobility, green hydrogen is becoming increasingly important. Last year, EU Vice-President Frans Timmermanns described it as the “rock star among the clean energies of the future”.
Prof. Thomas Willner, head of the Process Engineering Research Group at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), mentioned in his presentation that there were only seven years left to meet the 1.5-degree global warming target. For this reason, more alternative fuels are coming to the fore, whether liquid or gaseous – including hydrogen. Prof. Willner’s statement was echoed by Dr. Thorsten Jänisch, a scientist at the Institute of Combustion Technology at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Through Tom Korn’s statement, the previous views are once again underlined: “We see the hydrogen engine as a key technology for the rapid implementation of the mobility turnaround.”
Many thanks again to the organizers and the “co-panelists” for the successful event.
