Originally, the conference was to be held in May, but due to Corona, it has now been postponed to September 21/22. While the speakers met in Karlsruhe, the conference itself took place in digital form. Remarkable: it was the first conference in Germany exclusively on hydrogen engines. Even more remarkable: the list of well-known speakers – which shows that the topic hydrogen engine is obviously more and more on the agenda of politics and economy.
The conference was organized by Prof. Dr. Thomas Koch, head of the Institute for Piston Engines at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and responsible for combustion engine issues in the fields of research, teaching, and innovation. Prof. Koch knows what he is talking about, having held various positions in commercial vehicle engine development at Daimler AG 10 years earlier. It is therefore not surprising that Prof. Koch was able to attract renowned speakers. The keynote speech was held, for example, by Rudolf Scharping, former candidate for chancellor and former SPD chairman, who spoke about “H2 and China”. Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary at the “Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure” showed with his presentation “A Political Evaluation of the Hydrogen Engine” that the H2 engine has obviously arrived in politics. And Dr. Andreas Kufferath and Dr. Jochen Walther from BOSCH showed that obviously the automotive industry is also intensively dealing with the H2 engine.
And of course KEYOU was not to be missed at this event. Already at the beginning of this year Pro. Koch invited us to this conference at the engine congress in Baden Baden. We were joined by our CTO, Alvaro Sousa, who spoke on the second day about “Challenges & Insights” of hydrogen engine development and met a highly interested online community.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank KIT once again for the excellently organized and high-ranking first hydrogen engine conference and hope that more will follow!
