The Engine Congress was held in Baden-Baden for the eighth time this year. For years, the event has been an important meeting place for engine developers and fuel specialists from all over the world. But since COVID-19 currently has us firmly in its grip, this local event also had to be canceled – and hence our planned trade show appearance was also cancelled. Nevertheless, KEYOU was present virtually, since we had received a commitment in advance for a guaranteed slot in the “Hydrogen Engines” series.
Yes, you read right: There was a dedicated slot on the topic of hydrogen engines – another sign that the hydrogen engine has quite obviously arrived in the automotive industry! So you could almost think that our work in the last 4 years has paid off….
It is remarkable that especially large and renowned companies like FEV, IAV or AVL now also talked publicly about this alternative propulsion technology. The tenor of all the experts: Even though there are numerous technical challenges with the hydrogen combustion engine that have to be overcome, the hydrogen engine is an extremely attractive alternative to the battery and fuel cell! KEYOU had the privilege of opening the series of presentations on the “Hydrogen Engine” slot on the first day. Virtually on duty for us was Dr. Thomas Ebert, Head of Engine Development, who spoke on the topic “Direct-Injection Hydrogen Combustion Engines – New Requirements for Hardware Development and Simulation Methodology”.
Finally, a big praise to the organizers (ATZ/MTZ/VDI) for the – despite cancellation of the on-site event – successful event!
