On 7 May 2019, the results of the feasibility study “Potentials of sector coupling of renewable energies on the Ahrenshöft waste management site” were presented to the public in Husum – matching with the name of the venue – in the “House of Future Energies”. The invitation was issued by the Economic Council of the CDU, North Frisia Section. Schleswig-Holstein and in particular the coastal areas in the north play a pioneering role in the development and expansion of wind energy technology in Germany. Growing electricity surpluses are now to be intelligently coupled with the production of green hydrogen in order to promote a sustainable mobility transition.
The holistic study also investigated whether the use of green hydrogen in waste collection vehicles powered by fuel cells or hydrogen engines with KEYOU-inside technology is economically viable. Representatives from REMONDIS and Faun, local public transport companies, as well as H2 MOBILITY and KEYOU were among those taking part in the exciting panel discussion that followed. The discussion was chaired by Mr Stürmann, managing director of waste management company Nordfriesland and at the same time the client of the study.
