GP JOULE, an integrated energy solutions provider based in Reußenköge, Schleswig-Holstein, and KEYOU, a technology leader in hydrogen engines and "H2 Mobility as a Service" provider, have joined forces to offer customers an emission-free hydrogen mobility bundle at selected locations in Germany. Green hydrogen is already available for refueling at hydrogen filling stations initiated by GP JOULE in North Friesland and Bremerhaven. Filling stations are currently under construction in Kiel and Waiblingen. KEYOU's40-ton trucks are expected to be available by the end of 2026.
GP JOULE and KEYOU as enablers of sustainable hydrogen mobility
As an integrated energy supplier, GP JOULE is working on green hydrogen mobility projects that combine all areas of the value chain — from renewable energy production and green electricity use for green hydrogen production via electrolysis to hydrogen filling station construction and operation. GP JOULE has built three hydrogen filling stations in North Friesland and Bremerhaven with regional partners. These stations are supplied with green hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources. Further filling stations and hydrogen production plants are under construction in Kiel and Waiblingen.
When it comes to vehicles, KEYOU comes into the picture. The hydrogen expert and H2 mobility provider provides logistics companies and fleet operators with KEYOU trucks that run on CO2-free hydrogen engines and rents out the vehicles as part of an “H2 Mobility as a Service” package, which includes a comprehensive service and maintenance plan, 24/7 roadside assistance, and, if needed, full insurance coverage. Through this strategic partnership, KEYOU and GP JOULE aim to address the chicken-and-egg problem of hydrogen mobility together and offer companies a comprehensive solution.
Comprehensive cooperation on strategic expansion of hydrogen infrastructure and distribution of H2 trucks
As part of their extensive collaboration, the two companies are working closely together to provide attractive, zero-emission mobility solutions to transport and logistics companies. KEYOU provides 40-ton trucks based on the Daimler Actros with zero-emission, hydrogen engines through a rental program. GP JOULE guarantees the necessary refueling infrastructure and reliable green hydrogen supply at selected locations in Germany. The goal is to help transport companies decarbonize their fleets easily, predictably, and with as little riskas possible.
Combined expertise for the future of hydrogen mobility
"Thanks to partners like KEYOU, we can offer our green hydrogen portfolio to more and more companies. For the heavy-duty transportation sector in particular, mobility with green hydrogen is a perfect complement to battery-electric mobility. Our hydrogen filling station in Bremerhaven recently opened, and our partnership offers regional companies a simple way to convert their vehicles to an emission-free alternative," says Benjamin Jödecke, Head of Mobility at GP JOULE Hydrogen.
Pedro Bravo, CSO at KEYOU, adds, "Our collaboration with GP JOULE is a significant step in solving the chicken-and-egg problem, representing our most extensive partnership in the infrastructure sector to date. We are convinced that the combined expertise of KEYOU and GP JOULE in identifying and acquiring end customers will decisively advance hydrogen mobility in Germany. Only with a combination of everyday-use vehicles and the corresponding infrastructure can hydrogen mobility — and thus our technology — develop its full potential and represent a real alternative to diesel."
KEYOU began selling its 40-ton trucks at the end of 2024, and the semi-trailer tractor unit is scheduled to enter the market in 2026. Recently, KEYOU delivered the first 18-ton truck from its pioneering fleet. EP Trans, a logistics company based in Regensburg, is using the vehicle in the Nuremberg area.
